New Arrival: Houston Astros!

  • Luke Gregerson, p, Houston Astros – 28th round pick of the Cardinals back in 2006. Was a well thought of prospect while coming up through the St. Louis system, ranking in the Top 30 twice. Traded to the Padres in 2009, and has been a solid bullpen arm in the majors. Over nine season in the big leagues, he has amassed 7.2 WAR and holds a career 1.802 WHIP and 124 ERA+ over 599 innings. Not bad at all.

  • JD Davis, of, Houston Astros – I have a bit of a baseball crush on JD Davis ever since I saw him play here in Hawaii. He is a well thought of prospect–he has been ranked one of Houstons Top 15 prospects three times since 2014, topping out at #12 after the 2016 season. His 2017 season was pretty good: he hit .295/.370/.623 in AAA, and got 62 at-bats in the majors. While he did not light the big leagues on fire–he hit .226/.279/.484–he did hit 4 HR and looks like he might make an excellent 4th outfielder.

  • Tyler White, 1b, Houston Astros – Drafted in the 33rd round of the 2013 draft, White has been a good hitting first baseman for his entire time in the Houston minor league system. For a 33rd round pick, he has a fantastic bat with plus/plus plate disciple. What has been holding him back from a better prospect status–he has only ranked one time on the Astros Top 30–was that he did not hit with lots of power. This changed in 2017; this season in AAA he hit .300/.371/.528 with 25 HR. He even spent some time in the big leagues in 2017, hitting .279/.328/.525 with 3 HR. The problem is that he plays first base, where you have to bring some pretty exceptional offensive numbers to the table to break through on a contending team. I think that he will have a future in the big leagues, it just might not be with the Astros.
