Collecting Cleveland Indians Topps team sets from 1952-present, as well as post-war minor and major league autographs.

New Arrival: Dan Fyvie, p, Oakland Athletics

Dan Fyvie is one of many minor leaguers that I have had a crush on over the years, and though many never really panned out professionally I am still a fan of. Unfortunately, despite never becoming stars players like this can still be tough and/or expensive to add to the collection. This autograph is an example. To get it I had to buy a lot of Oakland signed index cards and hope that he was jammed in there someplace. I lucked out, and he was one of several that were keepers from the lot.

Dan Fyvie was Oaklands 33rd round pick of the 2001 draft out of Fenton HS (Fenton, MI).

Fyvie was a very solid relief pitcher for Oakland affiliates, but injuries–particularly a torn ACL in 2005–derailed his development. But prior to that 2005 injury he went 13-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 145:57 K:BB ratio in 165 innings.

I watched him during this period and thought that the A’s might have gotten a steal. It was a bummer when he could not get back to his pre-ACL injury levels of performance.

He retired in 2007.
