Prospecting Arrival: Harold Arauz, rhp, Philadelphia Phillies

  • The Houston Astros signed Harold Arauz as an international FA back in 2011 for $300K. He was 16 years old.
  • He had a rough 2015 in Low-A. He ended the season with an 0-5 record, 6.79 ERA and allowing 72 hits in 51 innings. It was a terrible season.
  • He joined the Philadelphia Phillies after the 2015 season, included in the package that netted the Astros their current closer Ken Giles.
  • Since joining the Phillies he has been a solid arm, both in the pen and rotation. It looks like his 2015 campaign was just an aberration.
  • Arauz played at three levels in 2017, bouncing between the pen and the rotation. On his 29 games this season, he started eight. One of which, while at High-A, was a seven-inning no-hitter.
  • He looks like a solid prospect. I like that age is working in his favor, and I really dig his low walk rate and ability to miss bats. He could move quickly, and I would not be surprised to see him in the majors in late-2018.
