When this set came out people were kind of critical about the design. I have to say…it grew on me. I am not sure if it’s in my Top 10, but its close.
Notes and Key Cards
- This Indians team was one inning away from winning the World Series. That is all I want to say about that.
- There are four rookies in this set: #603 Shawn Armstrong, #692 Giovanni Soto, #US 69 Mike Clevinger, #US 85 Shawn Morimando and #US 117 Tyler Naquin.
- Clevinger is a star…so that should make it a key card. Naquin still has a chance.
- I forgot that Juan Uribe was on this team. I remember thinking he was a solid signing…but at 37 he was just too old and was just terrible. But it opened up the door for Jose Ramirez to become a starter. That turned out.
- I think the only guy who did not have a card that would have been nice was Jeff Manship. He was the Tribe in 2015 and 2016 and was pretty ok–more so in 2015. Still, he was a regular part of the bullpen corps and it was a nice late-career rebound.
- Gosh, Dan Otero was great this season. 70.2 innings, allowing only 54 hits while striking out 57 and walking 10. Good for a 1.53 ERA/0.906 WHIP/269 ERA+. No card in the set, but he gets some in later issues.
