Very happy to add these two cards to my collection. Both Aaron Civale and Zach Plesac have played important roles on the Indians this season.
The Indians rotation was a strength coming into the season, but the injury bug bit that squad hard. Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Danny Salazar, Mike Clevinger and Trevor Bauer all missed (or are missing) extended periods of time this season. Some guys from AAA were needed to fill the holes–and they certainly did.
- Aaron Civale won his only start, going 6-innings and only allowing two hits while striking out six.
- Zach Plesac has started 12 games, going 6-3 with a 3.41 ERA/1.152 WHIP. Over 66 innings he only allowed 51 hits while striking out 47.
Just putting up quality starts is all that is expected from them, and both have accomplished that.
Neither was included in the 2019 Topps set, though they might sneak into the update. But assuming they don’t it’s nice that they will have some 2019 cards to reflect the contributions they are making.
