I have said this before…but I am a big fan of Max Muncy. I can prove it since I was writing man-crushy things about him back in 2013. I like him enough that it almost makes me sad that the Dodgers were yet again booted from the playoffs. Almost.
2019 was another fantastic campaign for Muncy.
- Hit .251/.374/.515 with 35 HR. Good for an OPS+ of 133
- Was selected to his first All-Star game
- He did this while having position flexibility; he spent most of the second manning first and second, though also got in roughly 30-games in at third base. I think he can also handle the outfield in a pinch, though there was no need for that this season.
Last season Muncy landed at #15 in the MVP vote. I am thinking he will be a little higher this season. What’s nice is that his autographs are cheap. I guess that’s to be expected considering the star power on that team, and maybe his 35 HR season is a little less impressive (and more common) than it was a couple of seasons ago. Still, I won’t complain about autographs from a player like him for $5 a pop.
