Andrew Vaughn is a very good baseball player. This past June he was drafted 3rd overall by the Chicago White Sox out of Cal.
- This season at Cal he hit .374/.539/.704 with 60 walks compared to just 33 strikeouts.
- He also hit 15 home runs and has 50 career dingers, which is #2 on the school’s all-time list behind only former top prospect Xavier Nady.
There is no doubt that Vaughn can hit for both power and average. The biggest complaint about him is that at only 6-feet tall he is kind of undersized for a first baseman. But all the scouting reports on his glove have him average or just above. And considering how strong his bat is, I don’t think he will be totally reliant on his glove to see how far he will go.
