Cal Stevenson is having a great season in high-A, hitting .295/.385/.389 with 5 HR. At 22 he is a shade under the league average age.
- The Blue Jays drafted him in the 10th round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Arizona.
- Coming into this season Fangraphs rated him the Blue Jays #33 prospect with a 35+ FV.
Fangraphs noted that High-A would be a decent test to see if the numbers that Stevenson had put up so far in his minor league career were legit. It would seem they are. He projects as a major leaguer, though maybe more of a fourth outfielder.
You might recognize his name from the trade deadline. The Blue Jays traded Stevenson, P Aaron Sanchez, and P Joe Biagini to the Astro’s for OF Derek Fisher. Considering the way the Astro’s do business, I would be worried they see something in Stevenson that the Blue Jays might regret letting go of later.
