I like Jordan Luplow. Years ago I wrote him a letter asking for an autograph. Instead of sending me back a signed card, he jammed a used batting glove into an envelope. That was a curveball. When I found out he was traded to the Tribe I was pretty happy.
Luplow was draft by the Pirates in the 3rd round of the 2014 draft. In November 2018 he was traded to the Indians for a couple of minor leaguers and Erik Gonzalez.
Indians really needed outfield help for the 2019 season, and Luplow is an outfielder…so that worked.
- In his two seasons in the majors, he hit .194/.274/.371 over 170 at-bats. He hit 3 HR per season.
Meh. But he was a warm body! And that counts. At least for an Indians outfielder in 2019.
But this trade worked out. Luplow mashed against lefties all season and became a very capable platoon bat. He was injured quite a bit, but he would have a career year
- In 2019 Luplow hit .276/.372/.551 with 15 HR over 225 at-bats.
Nothing to complain about. For a team like the Indians, he should have no problem finding a place on the 25-man roster for the 2020 season.
