Ricky Vanasco was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of 2017 draft–a high school pick out of Florida. He was slated to go to Stetson before deciding to go pro.
- His numbers in 2017 and 2018, while pitching in rookie ball, were not all that great. But it shouldn’t have been a surprise. He was considered a project coming out of high school and was going to need a little more time to develop.
This season…he was much better. Between Hickory and Spokane this season he went 3-1 with a 1.81 ERA/1.067WHIP.
- My favorite stat was all the strikeouts: over 49.2 innings–all while in the rotation–he K’d 75 while only walking 25.
- He was also selected to his first All-Star game this season.
He is running roughly a year and a half younger than his peers. And with the strikeout numbers, there certainly does look to be a legit pitching prospect here.
