Cleveland relief pitcher Tim Herrin was drafted in the 29th round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Indiana. He has never once been rated in Baseball America as one of Cleveland’s Top 30 prospects, and chances are you have never heard of him.
Pitcher Cody Morris was drafted by Cleveland in the 7th round of the 2018 draft out of South Carolina. Over the last couple of seasons, he has become one of the organization’s top pitching prospects. In 2022, he made his MLB debut and more than held his own against big league hitters.
Connor Staine (Rockies) and Caleb Ricketts (Phillies) are two 2022 MLB draft picks that I ran across today while sorting some cards.
From the Field: Jared Quandt, of, University of Hawaii Baseball … Outfielder Jared Quandt is a redshirt sophomore at the University of Hawaii. In 2021 he put up very good numbers as a freshman, hitting .310 with a .412 OBP and 1 HR. Quandt missed the 2022 season due to[…]
One of the better D2 pitchers we have seen come through Hawaii so far this season is Riley O’Sullivan of Concordia University.
Card: 2013 Topps Archives Ellis Burks Autograph … Do you know who was a pretty good baseball player? Ellis Burks. … Back in 2000, when Cleveland knew that it was not going to be able to resign Manny Ramirez, signed free agent outfielder Ellis Burks to a three-year, $20 million[…]
Andres Mora’s career was more than just his four seasons in the majors. When he finally retired from baseball in 1997, he was recognized as one of the greatest power hitters in Mexican League history, and would very likely be the league’s all-time homerun champion if it wasn’t for his four seasons in the majors.
Robin Yount had a fantastic career and deserved to be elected to the Hall of Fame back in 1999. I do think it’s funny that he had almost as many MVP awards (two) as All-Star selections (three).
Last season Clase had one of the most dominant seasons of any closer in franchise history: he lead the league in appearances (77), games finished (67), and saves (42). He finished the year with a 1.36 ERA and 281 ERA+ and was selected to his first All-Star game.
