Cleveland drafted Ethan Hankins with the 35th overall pick of the 2018 draft. He was one of the best players available in the draft, but his stock slipped because of a shoulder injury. In 2021 he underwent Tommy John surgery, which sidelined him until this past season. On the surface, it was a rough comeback season for Hankins, as he went 1-7 with a 5.09 ERA with high-A Lake County. But his underlying numbers were excellent: in 46 innings he only allowed 38 hits and struck out 50. Considering players need a season or two to bounce back from TJ, there is no reason not to be optimistic about his future.
