The Card: 1986 Procards Charleston Gators Sandy Alomar Jr.
Is this his first card? Oh gosh no. Sandy Alomar Jr.’s first minor league card is 1984 Spokane Indians Newspaper #22. I have never even had a chance to buy this card. It’s a bummer. But this is his second minor league card, so it will have to suffice until I can get his Spokane card.
What is his rookie card? Sandy Alomar has a couple of rookie cards, all coming from 1989 issues: 1989 Bowman #454, 1989 Bowman Rated Rookie #454, 1989 Fleer #300, 1989 Score #630, 1989 Topps #648, and 1989 Upper Deck #5.
When was he with Cleveland? It’s hard to think of Alomar as anything other than a Cleveland player. He spent 20-seasons in the big leagues, 11 of them coming with the Tribe. During that time he was a six-time All-Star, won a Gold Glove, and was the 1990 AL Rookie of the Year. He is on a very short list of the greatest catchers in franchise history that include Victor Martinez, Johnny Romano, Yan Gomes, and Jim Hegan.
This is another card in my growing collection of Cleveland baseball minor league cards, which, if you are into these kinds of things, can be viewed on my site.
