Grant Sides was the Indians 12th round pick of the 2011 draft out of Samford.
He was not a terribly exciting prospect, but he put up good numbers as a relief pitcher from 2011-2016. I liked him.
His 2016 season in AA was pretty great: 61.2 innings, 41 hits allowed while striking out 48 and walking 29. Good for a 3.79 ERA/1.103 WHIP. He was never going to be an All-Star in the majors, but I thought he had a pretty good chance of making it to the show at some point.
The Indians let Sides go on waivers in 2017, where he was snagged by the Arizona Diamondback. He pitched all of two innings for the Diamondbacks AAA before getting released.
He spent most of 2018 playing Indy ball with the York Revolution. He pitched really well: 4-0, 31.1 innings, 20 hits, 48 K’s and only 11 walks.
I would not be shocked to see him get scooped up by some team next spring looking for AAA arms.
