This was signed in 2017 during Spring Training.
Shawn Armstrong was drafted out of East Carolina University in the 18th round of the 2011 draft.
He moved quickly through the system, advancing more than a level per season before finally making it to the majors in 2015. He spent most of 2015 in AAA pitching in relief, and showed that he had nothing left to prove in the minors: 1-2, 16 saves with a 2.36 ERA/1.268WHIP over 49.2 innings.
He rode the bus between AAA and the majors from 2015 to 2017, and in December 2018 he was traded to the Mariners for international bonus slot money.
This season he–yet again–pitched well in AAA, and was called up for 14.2 innings in the majors. He was good there too (9 hits, 15 K’s with only 3 walks).
Sure would be nice if someone would let him stick with the big league club.
