New Arrival: Arthur Rhodes, p, Cleveland Indians
…
Do you know who had a really good career? Arthur Rhodes. He was drafted in the 2nd round by Baltimore in 1988 and made it to the majors in 1991 as a starting pitcher. Rhodes struggled in the rotation, and by 1996 was transitioned into a dependable pen arm. From 1996-2011 he had 11 seasons with an OPS+ north of 100. He got some MVP votes following his 1997 campaign when he went 10-3 with a 146 OPS+ and was selected to the All-Star team in 2010. Also, in his last season in the majors, in 2011 with the Cardinals, he won a Championship.

Rhodes was fantastic in his one season in Cleveland. In 2005 he went 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA/203 ERA+ over 43.1 innings. Cleveland traded him in the offseason for outfielder Jason Michaels. In retrospect, this was not a great move, since the 2006 Cleveland team had a rough collection of bullpen arms.

All told, Rhodes spent 20 seasons in the majors and retired with a record of 87-70 with 33 saves and a 109 OPS+.
