Pitcher Connor Staine was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 5th round of the 2022 draft from the University of Central Florida. He had a fantastic 2022 season with UCF: 1.87 ERA/1.200 WHIP over 43.1 innings, allowing only 31 hits while striking out 51. He didn’t pitch in the minors after being drafted. He has three solid pitches and is working on a changeup, so there is no reason he should not open his pro career in the rotation.

Catcher Caleb Ricketts was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 7th round of the 2022 draft from the University of San Diego. He has a breakout season with San Diego in 2022, hitting .373/.423/.658 with 22 HR, and was selected as the West Coast Conference player of the year. And he is a catcher! At least for now. And nobody doesn’t love an offensive-minded backstop. Ricketts ended up getting 81 at-bats with Low-A Clearwater in late-2022 and continued to hit well, with a .732 OPS and 3 HR.
