This is what I wrote about Austin Gomber back in 2016:
4th round pick of the Cardinals in 2014 out of Florida Atlantic. Was awesome in 2015 (15-3, 2.67 with 140/34 K/BB in 135 innings, 97 hits), and rated one of the Cardinals Top 15 prospects coming into 2016.
This season is more of the same. In High-A he went 6-8 with a 2.93 ERA/1.07 WHIP, and then was bumped up to AA where in 13 innings he has only allowed 5 hits and struck out 8.
Gomber made the majors in 2018 and was very solid out of the Cardinals rotation in the second half of the season. But this spring St. Louis had a deep rotation and there was just so space for him on the 25-man roster.
He is in AAA right now and pitching very well, with a 2.98 ERA/1.279 WHIP over 45.1 innings. He has only allowed 42 hits while striking out 52 and only walking 16.
I am sure he will get another chance soon enough.
