Bobby Dalbec was drafted out of the University of Arizona in the 4th round of the 2016 draft. Arizona played Hawaii that season, which is where I was able to get this autograph. I was very happy to get it. That Arizona team was stacked with prospects, and Dalbec was one of seven players taken in the June draft.
- Bobby Dalbec, 3B, Boston Red Sox
- Zach Gibbons, OF, Angeles Angels (Led the Wildcats with a crazy .460 OBP. But in 278 at-bats never hit an HR)
- Cody Ramer, SS, Los Angeles Angels (Had a great .441 OBP in 2016)
- Kevin Ginkel, RHP, Arizona Diamondbacks (Went 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA in 2016, and made the majors in 2019)
- Trey Griffey, CF, Seattle Mariners (the son of Ken…I don’t think he was even on the baseball team.)
- Nathan Bannister, RHP, Seattle Mariners (Went 12-2 with a 2.59 ERA in 2016)
- Ryan Aguilar, 1b, Milwaukee Brewers (led the team in HR in 2016 with 8, and had a .384 OBP)
From 2017-to 2021, Dablec was one of Boston’s top prospects, and in 2020 and 2021 was one of the Top 100 prospects in baseball. He would make his major league debut in 2020, and in 2021 hit .240/.298/.494 with 25 HR. The strikeouts are a bit of a problem, but he is not the first young power hitter to have to work through that issue.
