Man, I remember being really excited about infielder Brett Lawrie. He was Brewer’s 16th overall pick of the 2008 draft. He was a well-regarded prospect and put up fantastic numbers in the minors. He made the majors in 2011 with the Blue Jays, had over 150 at-bats, and ended the season with a 153 OPS+. Things looked bright!
But things quickly fell apart. Injuries and attitude issues caught up with Lawrie, and over the next three seasons, he was roughly a league-average player. He would be traded to the Athletics in 2014, and later to the White Sox. But his numbers did not improve.
Lawrie never technically retired, but he has not played pro ball since 2016.
