Gary Sheffield had a borderline Hall of Fame, 22-year career. When he retired following the 2009 season, he had a career 140 OPS+ and 509 career home runs. He was selected to nine All-Star teams and five Silver Sluggers. He also won the 1992 AL batting title. I think the problem with Sheffield is that he bounced around so much; his first six seasons he spent with the Marlins, but after that, he never spend more than four seasons with any of the seven clubs he played for. That is not a great one to build a legacy. Still, there is no denying he had a great career.
