Anymore, I am not a huge fan of the Topps cards that have the super-glossy finish with an autograph–mostly because I worry about how the autograph will survive long term. But my cards stay in a box, in a closet, and I live in Hawaii so the humidity is never all that terrible…so I think the majority (though certainly not all) of my autographs age pretty well. This one is a great example since the autograph is still very bold.
I don’t have too many Hank Aaron autographs. This is one of only a couple–and I think it’s my only certified autograph. I regret not buying more in the years prior to the COVID price-hikes since. Every time I look at his stats I am just…awestruck. I mean, its not like I need to be reminded how good he is, but still, look at this:
- 23 seasons in the big leagues, and retired with a 755 HR and a 155 OPS+.
- 25 All-Star selections
- Three Gold Gloves
- Two batting titles
- He only had one MVP selection but was in the top five in voting eight times.
- He is #7 in career WAR, with 143. The nearest active player to him? Albert Pujols, who is in his final season and has amassed 99.3 WAR.
