Ivan Rodriguez was one of those players that I grew up with and took for granted how good he was. He was…very good.
- He debuted in 1991 and would end up spending 21-seasons in the majors. The majority with the Texas Rangers.
- In his prime–I will call in from 1992 to 2007–he hit .304/.342/.484 with an OPS+ of 112. He averaged 18 HR a season.
- Rodriguez was selected to 14 All-Star games, won seven Silver Sluggers and was the 1999 American League MVP.
- He was a great hitter, but he also was amazing with the glove, winning 13 Gold Gloves.
- He retired with a line of .296/.334/.464, 311 HR and a 106 OPS+.
- And of course, he was a 2007 first ballot Hall of Famer.
If you are in the market for his rookie card you have…plenty of choices. I miss the 90’s.
