Kosuke Fukudome was traded from the Chicago Cubs to Cleveland in July 2011. The Indians had to part ways with two prospects to get him, pitcher Carlton Smith and outfielder Abner Abreu. The 2011 Cleveland Indians, like pretty much every season since, were having trouble fielding a major-league caliber outfield. At the time of the trade, the only regular outfield the Indians had was Michael Brantley. Shin-Soo Choo and Grady Sizemore were injured and Austin Kearns, Travis Buck and Ezequiel Carrera struggled to produce.
As soon as the trade went down I went in search of an autograph, and was able to snag the card above on a consignment.
Unfortunately, Fukudome was not all that great once he landed in Cleveland, hitting .249/300/371, good for an 88 OPS+. He was granted he Free Agency that fall, and would only spend one more season in the majors before going back to play in Japan in 2013.
