Outfielder Lew Ford. Back in 2004, filling in for an injured Torii Hunter, Ford hit .299/.381/.446 with 15 HR for the Twins. He finished 24th in MVP voting. It was his second season in the majors, and it seemed like the Minnesota had found a hidden gem in the 27-year old. But 2004 would be his best season. Ford’s numbers dipped in 2005, and after two more years of poor production the Twins let him walk as a free agent in 2008. Its weird. I always feel like he had a longer career. And he did! Just not in the majors…
Ford has not been in the majors since 2013, but he is still going strong in Indy ball. This past season, with the Long Island Ducks, he hit .311/.348/.437 with 3 HR. Not bad for a 44-year old. It was his 11th season of Indy ball, were he has gotten over 3,000 at-bats with a line of .311/.348/.437 and selected to three All-Star teams.
