Matt Whitney was the Indians 1st round pick of the 2002 draft–33rd overall. He was a great prospect, who got comparisons to Manny Ramirez, Scott Rolen, and David Wright at different points in his minor league career. From 2003-2006 he consistently ranked as one of the Tribes Top 30 prospects, highlighted by his 2007 campaign where he slugged 32 HR between low and high-A. The Nationals thought enough of Whitney to take him in the 2008 Rule V draft, but he was not able to stick on the major league roster and would bounce around to a few more organizations before retiring following the 2010 season. He never advanced past AAA. He would retire with a very respectable MiLB career line of .260/.345/.430 with 84 HR.
