Shortstop Miguelangel Sierra was a former Astros top prospect who is now playing independent ball with the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Why I like him
From 2016-2018 Miguelangel was one of the Astro’s better middle-infield prospects, ranking as high as #11 following the 2016 season. So that is something!
But Miguelangel’s prospect status was based more on projection than on-field results. Unfortunately, once he was promoted to affiliate ball he simply could not hit. In 2018 he hit .230/.278/.371 with 143 K’s and only 26 walks. He put up nearly identical numbers in 2019 in High-A. He did not play in 2020 and was eventually released by the Astros. He signed with the Skeeters for the 2021 season and is hitting .171/.285/.297
