Nellie Rodriguez was drafted by Cleveland in the 15th round of the 2012 draft. From 2014-2017 Rodriguez was one of the Tribe’s Top 30 prospects–almost totally based on his plus power.
In 2016, Rodriguez hit .250/.352/.474 with 26 HR for AA Akron. The 22-year old looked like he was on the cusp of a major league call-up. Opening the season in AAA, Rodriguez hit a wall and would end the campaign with a line of .170/.271/.342 with 17 HR. He would spend the next couple of seasons bouncing between AA and AAA, and would never make the major league club. Cleveland let him walk as a MiLB free agent following the 2019 season.
But hey! This past season, with Indy league York Revolution, hit destroyed pitchers to the tune of .316/.444/.603 with 25 HR.
