I got this card two years ago, part of a Spring Training consignment.
Paul Goldschmidt is…just a great player. Especially when you consider that he was drafted in the 8th round (2009).
- Eight seasons in the big leagues and he has yet to have a bad campaign. The lowest OPS+ he has registered was in his rookie season, and even then it was a 117.
- From 2012-2018 he has hit .299/.400/.534 and has averaged 29 HR a season. He had a career OPS+ of 145.
- He has been selected for 6 x All-Star teams, won 3 x Gold Gloves and 4 x Silver Slugger Awards.
This is a borderline Hall of Fame career. What is working again him is his position (first base) and age (he will be 31 in 2019). But if he keeps hitting like this until his late-30’s you have to think HOF voters will take note.
