From the Collection: Royce Lewis, of, Minnesota Twins
…
This year my fantasy team was a disaster. But I salvaged a second-place finish, in large part, because I was able to snag Royce Lewis off the waiver wire deep into the season. Second half Lewis was a monster, with 11 HR and a fantastic 165 sOPS+. His late-season surge helped me knock out two teams in the play-offs before my demise in the league Championship Game. Did my picking him up cause him Lewis to blow up in the second half? Nobody knows.

Royce Lewis putting up big numbers should not be a surprise. In case you don’t remember, he was the #1 overall pick of the Twins back in 2017, and has either been the organiztions #1 or #2 overall prospect since 2018. Not that he has not had his struggles–both with injuries and performance–but the tools have remained, and are producing at the big-league level. Its illustrative of his season contributions that his two HR in game one of the ALWC helped the Twins break an 18-game playoff losing streak. While the Twins have their flaws, their future should be bright with young hitters like Lewis, Edouard Julien, Alex Kirillof, and Trevor Larnach in that line-up.
