The Card: 2015 National Treasures Tyler Krieger Clemson Patch
Every now and again I get infatuated with a prospect and go crazy trying to stock up on their autograph. Tyler Krieger was one of those players. This was back in 2016 when he had a fantastic season between Low-A and High-A, hitting .299/.377/.417. He struck out too much (118 in 482 at-bats), and did not have a ton of power (5 homers), but those are still great numbers for a middle infield prospect.
And it’s not just me that liked him as a player: Krieger was a 4th-round pick out of Clemson in 2015, and Baseball America rated him one of Cleveland’s top prospects from 2016-2018.
Unfortunately, Krieger has not had a great time of it since 2016. He has struggled against AA and AAA pitching, and the Guardians let him walk as a free agent in 2022. He played in the Braves and White Sox organizations before retiring in late-June 2022.
This is a good lesson about not going too crazy with prospects since…baseball is hard.
