Tyler Naquin had an amazing rookie season in 2016, hitting .296/.372/.514 with 14 HR and helping the Cleveland Indians make the World Series. Since then he has struggled in the majors, both with his performance and health. There are times he flashes the skills that netted him 3rd place in the 2016 ROY race, but other times where it looks like he should still be in AAA.
This season is much of the same. He is hitting .267/.304/.453 with 6 HR (95 OPS+), but also had 40 K’s to only 8 walks. Luckily for him, the Indians have a shallow pool of talent to throw in the outfield, so as long as he stays healthy he will continue to get at-bats. In a perfect world, he would be a strictly be a platoon bat against right-handed pitching. He is 28, and with almost four seasons in the majors, I don’t expect him to improve too much more than what we are seeing now.
