Wally Post‘s last season in the big leagues came in 1964 with Cleveland. The outfielder got eight at-bats, recorded no hits, and would be released in May. It would be the end of an impressive 15-year career in the big leagues.
Wally Post was a fantastic player in his prime. It’s only a shame his prime did not last longer. He made the majors in 1949 with the Reds but did not find regular at-bats until 1954. From 1954-1962 he was one of the most solid outfielders in the game, hitting .270/.326/.495, averaging 23 HR a season, and all with plus defense. He put on particularly impressive power displays in 1955 (40 HR) and 1956 (36 HR).
