Brady Singer was selected by the Royals with the 18th overall pick of the 2018 draft out of the University of Florida.
This was the second time he was drafted, the first time being in 2015 when he was the Blue Jays second-round pick.
He was a fantastic college pitcher. In 2018–his junior season–he went 12-3 with a 2.55 ERA/0.94 WHIP. He only allowed 84 hits in 113 innings while striking out 114. He only walked 22 batters.
He also won the final game of the 2018 College World Series.
Singer projects right now to be a starter, but if he does not develop a third strong pitch he could easily transition to being a shutdown pen arm. Which…with the way the game is going…might make him just as valuable as a middle of the rotation arm.
Either way, he is easily the Royals #1 prospect coming into 2019.
