- Long Beach State visited Hawaii this season, and as always they had a very talented team. They took 2 of 3 from Hawaii.
- Chris Rivera (Junior) is the teams closer and had a very strong season. He went 2-3 with 11 saves, allowing only 31 hits in 36.2 innings. He struck out 45 and only walked 5. Opposing batters only hit .230 off him
- He was on my list not only for the strong 2018 campaign he was having but also his 2017 season–he saved 13 games while allowing opposing batters to only hit .172.
- Late in the season, the team shirted Rivera from the classic closer role to more of a multi-inning deployment. If he would have stayed a strict closer I think his numbers would have been insane, but I also understand wanting to stretch out his talent across multiple innings.
- Following the season Rivera was selected to the second team, All-Big West.
- And this past June he was taken the MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 33rd Round.
Congrats to @LBDirtbags Chris Rivera who is headed to the @Cardinals! #LBinMLB #GoBeach #STLCards pic.twitter.com/Nh02ckvUYG
