George Valera came into this season rated the Indians #5 prospect. The ranking was based heavily on his tools and a brief showing in the Arizona League in 2018, where he hit .333/.409/.556 with one home run before going down with an injury.
This season he opened the year in Low-A Mahoning Valley and has done nothing but improved his status. He is hitting .269/.387/.452 with 4 HR, and he doing it as an 18-year old, which is roughly three years under the NYPL average. He is easily one of the most exciting prospects to come down through the Indian’s system in years and has a chance to be a dynamic offensive talent if he tools translate into production.
