Over the last year, I have been trying to ensure that I don’t miss out on any local Hawaiian prep baseball talent. This is largely because I missed out on infielder Devin Saltiban. That stings. He is one of a few recent Hawaii-born players whom I missed out on over the past couple of seasons, including Maui Ahuna and Kala’i Rosario. Fortunately, I was able to get this card signed this past spring, which was very cool.

It’s not all my fault. I live on Oahu, and he went to school in Hilo–and the different island schools only play each other in the playoffs. And even those rotate islands. Between that and my schedule, it just never worked out. It also does not help that he was a University of Hawaii commit, so I assumed I could get him when he started school. But his draft stock exploded late in the season, and when the Phillies took him in the 3rd round…I knew I missed my chance.
