If you were to ask who my favorite active player is, it might very well end up being Joey Votto. This autograph that I got back TTM back in 2006 is high on the list of reasons why. I’ve been a fan of his since 2003 when he managed a .452 OBP while at Low-A Billings, but was never able to get him TTM until this autograph in 2006. I was thrilled when I got it, and it’s still one of my favorite autographs in my collection.
Votto signed this while he was with the Chattanooga Lookouts back in 2006, the Reds AA affiliate. At the time he was Cincinnati’s #9 prospect, but a strong season in Chattanooga (.319/.409/.547 with 22HR) would push him to #3 in 2007.
The rest is history. Since making the majors in 2007 he has been selected to six All-Star teams, won a Gold Glove, and was the 2010 National League MVP. He has led the league in OBP seven times and walks five times. He is a truly generational talent.
