From the Field: Johnny Field, of, Minnesota Twins

I know Johnny Field since, for a brief time, he was part of the Indians organization. The Tribe selected him off waivers in July 2019 from the Rays, but he was only with the organization until early August, when he selected again off waivers by the Twins. Considering the dumpster fire that is the Indians outfield I am a little surprised that they did not hold onto him a little longer.

Field got his first taste of the majors in 2018 with the Rays but struggled (.213/.253/.373). He never got called up to the majors during his brief stay in Cleveland. He made to the majors again with the Twins, but did not perform well over 16 at-bats. He remains on Minnesota’s 40-man roster.

I think that Field will eventually settle in as a 4th outfielder. He does not have any standout tools, but he has hit more than enough in AA and AAA to make me think that given enough time against major league pitching he would hold his own.
