This is a neat one.
- He is a local kid. Went to Punahou High School here in Hawaii.
- Drafted out of high school–the 25th round of the 2014 draft by the Indians–but decided to instead go to college at Oregon State.
- He was a great hitter at Oregon State, and the Brewers snagged him in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft.
- While he played both first and catcher in college–and would be more valuable as a catcher–it looks like as a pro he will be a first baseman.
- He knocked the stuffing out of the ball last season in Rookie ball, but this season in full season Low-A he is not quite doing so well: .215/.292/.391. He is showing plenty of pop–10 HR–but he is striking out a ton, with 112 K’s to only 30 walks in 302 at-bats.
