Pitcher Kade Strowd was drafted out of West Virginia University in the 12th round of the 2019 draft by Baltimore.
- His numbers in college were not great. Over three seasons he carried a 5.31 ERA/1.591 WHIP. And while he gave up plenty of hits and walks, he also struck out plenty (183 K’s in 191.2 innings).
While his numbers were not eye-popping, the scouts clearly saw some tools worth trying to polish.
Strowd opened his pro career in Low-A and worked out of the pen and was very successful.
- Over 17 IP he only allowed 11 hits and struck out 19. Good for a 0.53 ERA/1.059 WHIP.
Right now it seems like Baltimore thinks that his stuff will play better out of the pen. So far, so good.
