From the Field: Kai Correa, coach, Cleveland Guardians
…
I was able to get Cleveland Guardian’s coach Kai Correa [ @thatguy__kai ] a couple of days ago. For a guy who collects Cleveland Guardian and Hawaii-based player autographs, this is about as exciting as it can get. Mr. Correa is originally from Hilo, Hawaii, and while he has never played professionally he is considered one of the best young coaches in the league.

The Guardians hired Kai Correa a couple of weeks ago as the club’s new major league field coordinator. This isn’t his first time with the club, as he was the infield coach and defensive coordinator for Cleveland’s complex league and short-season minor league teams in 2018-2019. Most recently he was the San Fransisco Giants bench coach and infield coordinator under Gabe Kapler and stepped in as manager of the team for the last three games of the season.

This is exciting. Correa is only 35, but everything I read about him talks about how well-respected he is around the league. He was even in the running for the full-time manager’s job in San Fransisco this past season, which is very impressive for someone his age. Also, Cleveland is known for hiring good people, and the league–coaches and front offices–are filled with people with Cleveland connections. I would not be surprised to see his next job as a manager somewhere.
