I’ve seen Keston Hiura twice in Hawaii, in 2016 and 2017. He was always very cool. The autograph above is from his 2016 visit to the islands.
In 2017 he was projected to be a 1st round pick in the draft, though questions about an elbow injury were tamping down expectations. The injury affected his defense more than his bat, but luckily his bat is so good that even with the injury he was still near the top of most teams draft boards.
On draft day 2018 he was taken 9th overall by the Milwaukee Brewers.
He hovers on most MLB Top-100 prospect lists in the 50’s range. This season, between high-A and AA, he is hitting .313/.373/.508 with 9 HR. He is striking out a ton–65 K’s to only 19 walks in 307 at-bats–but that is the price you pay for the power.
Great prospect. He was selected to the 2018 Future Games and is being mentioned a lot as a trade target, so that says something.
