From the Field: Marshall Kasowski, p, Los Angeles Dodgers

Marshall Kasowski was drafted out of West Texas A&M by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 13th round (400th overall) of the 2017 draft.

• West Texas A&M is a Division II school, and anyone who knows me knows my weird love of Divison II baseball. Kasowski was the ace of the team staff before being drafted.
• In the pros, he was moved to the pen, which was no surprise considering his pitch repertoire of fastball and curve–both of which are very good.
• This season he has played in both High-A and AA and more than held his own. His AA stats are particularly impressive so far: over 7 appearances spanning 8.1 innings he has allowed one hit while striking out 13 and walking seven. I think he is getting peoples attention.

After tonight’s game, Marshall Kasowski, in 7.1 scoreless innings thus far in Double-A, has yet to give up a hit. He’s also struck out ten, and walked seven.

So, this is kind of a no-hitter alert. Not a real no-hitter, but an interesting one.

• He didn’t rate on the 2018 Baseball America or John Sickles lists that I saw, but I think that he will get some attention for the 2019 season. He is a pen arm, but one that I think has the potential to move fast.
