This card was signed during Spring Training this year. Was really hoping to knock it out…I figured the autograph would pop, and its a neat, short-printed card as well.
While I love the Indians, the Athletics are a close second and its nice to see them having some sucess this season–in no small part because of guys like Olson.
- Matt Olson was drafted in the 1st round of the 2012 draft–47th overall.
- His numbers in the minors were huge: he showed plus power and strike-zone judgment–but he also struck out a ton. His 2014 season with high-A Stockton is the perfect example: .262/.404/.543 with 117 walks and 137 K’s and 37 HR over 512 at bats.
- He has been pretty much the same player in the majors. He made it to Oakland for the first time in 2016, but 2018 is his first season as a full-time player and he is one of the better power hitters in the league, with 19 HR and a 120 OPS+ over 317 at bats. He has 34 walks to 91 K’s.
