Despite being contenders in 2018 the Athletics starting rotation was, for the most part, a dumpster fire. In an effort to help fortify the rotation down the stretch the A’s traded for Mike Fiers. Fiers was having a decent season with the Tigers–but most importantly was a warm body who could pitch league average or better every five days. For the A’s that made him essentially the teams ace.
Fiers would go 5-2 with the A’s, with a 3.74 ERA/1.057 WHIP/112 ERA+ over 53 innings. He was just what Oakland needed.
He is a free agent heading into 2019. He probably won’t be back witht he A’s.
