Nick Wittgren was drafted by the Marlins in the 9th round of the 2012 draft out of Perdue University.
- He twice ranked as one of the Marlins Top 30 prospects (#18 in 2013, #26 in 2015)
Wittgren made the majors 2016 with Florida and over the next three seasons proved to be a dependable pen arm. In fact, in 2018 he was (when healthy) the best relief pitcher in the Marlins pen. Despite this success, the Marlins DFA’d him that winter. No idea why.
The Indians traded for him following the 2018 season, sending Florida MiLB Jordan Milbrath.
This past season Wittgren was a very solid contributor to the Indians pen.
- Over 55 games spanning 57.2 innings he went 5-1 with a 2.81 ERA/1.075 WHIP with a 169 ERA+. He only allowed 47 hits and struck out 60.
