I was really happy to add this autograph to my collection this week– it’s one less guy that I have to stress out about getting this coming season.
Richie Palacios is one of the Indians better prospects. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2018 draft out of Towson Universtiy and ended his first professional season playing in Low-A ball. Even for a college guy, it’s pretty impressive to jump through three levels in his first pro campaign.
He profiles as a stereotypical top of the order hitter. He does not have a ton of pop but his plate disciple in top notch. He also has plus contact skills. These tools, coupled with his plus speed means he has the potential to develop into a leadoff hitter. He is currently the Tribe’s #20 prospect per the Pipeline.
I am really excited to see how he plays out this season. While he held his own in Lake Country he still had some struggles, so that is the logical place for him to open the 2019 season. Considering how well he hit for most of 2019 I doubt he will have much problem acclimating and advancing.
