I am really bummed out about the Yandy Diaz trade.
This season he hit .312/.375/.422 over 109 at-bats–good for a 115 OPS+. I know that he was not a traditional power hitter because of his low launch angle, but considering his exit velocity it’s not like he is having to cheat to get extra base hits.
Diaz has hit at every level. I really believe that he just needs at-bats at the major league level to blossom. Problem is that he will be 27 this year, and the Indians clearly were not willing to give him that chance.
Getting traded to the Rays is probably the best move for him, but I worry that the Indians are going to regret this trade later.
Got this autograph during the last week of the 2018 season.
