From the Collection: Randy Johnson, sp, Arizona Diamondbacks
…
Fun fact! In 1998, Cleveland almost traded for Randy Johnson. The rotation of Bartolo Colon, Dave Burba, Jaret Wright, Charles Nagy, and Dwight Gooden was not one that was going to take them on a deep playoff run. Johnson, at the top of the rotation, would have changed the entire pitching staff dynamic. But the team balked at including outfielder Brian Giles in a trade. So they passed. And would love the ALCS to the Yankees in six games. That winter they would trade away Brian Giles for RP Ricardo Rincon. It’s a very depressing series of events.
